Here are some of the many ways we are fighting against domestic abuse.
Brent R. Smith golf scramble
Our newest fundraiser, the scramble is an annual event honoring the memory of a friend. 144 golfers enjoy a day of friendly competition, snacks, and a catered meal. Funds go towards the St. John Amelith Building Fund and the Brent R. Smith Scholarship - a scholarship for students who have lost a parent.
Dirty Dog trail run
JVS partners with SOS Animal Rescue in Midland to raise funds for Shelterhouse, a non-profit organization which provides housing for victims of abuse as well as their pets.
Combining the preceding "5K-9" event with an HSBC gala, the weekend includes races, music, and support for victims of abuse as well as a chance to support cats and dogs at the Bay County Animal Shelter.
SVSU Student organization - JVSO
One of our members has started a student organization at Saginaw Valley State University with the goal of reaching youth directly and providing easy access to resources such as the Bay Area Women's Center as well as educating them about noticing signs in their friends' relationships as well as their own.
Participants have the opportunity to race in a variety of events, either with a dog or without. Guest speakers provide information on how to spot signs of domestic abuse, and delegates from the Bay Area Women's Center provide resources for victims. Funds raised go towards providing housing for victims of abuse and their pets, and improving the lives of victims of abuse.
